A little bit confused..

Post by MsShimano » Sun Feb 26, 2017 7:50 pm

I'm a bit confused.. hearing two sides to the story. Can you eat a barracouda or not? I caught two decent size today but I am not sure. I heard they are good eating fish but also heard they are good gummy bait. Help? :fish22:
Of course I talk to my self while fishing.. sometimes I need expert advice! :fishing:

For use as gummy bait go with chunk baits not strips. Hook pinned through the top and make sure it doesn't spin!

Just catch some whiting. Much better eating

Time to catch a tuna then.

Many people done eat barracuda because of the worms in them and also because they are extremely bony.
Ifyoucan findines without worms They actually taste fantastic.

You can eat them, before flake because popular couta was the default fish you had when you got fish and chips.

I've tried one, it tasted pretty good but by the time I'd got rid of the bones it had gone cold which isn't much fun. I don't bother keeping them for food now, too many of them are wormy, especially the big ones that would be easier to get the bones out of.
2015/16 Fisting Victoria Species comp total: 289cm
Brown Trout: 37cm
Flathead: 51cm; Squid: 36cm; Australian Salmon: 51cm; Snapper 46cm; Silver Trevally 23cm; KGW: 45cm

Caught one in January, cooked it up, tasted fine. The worms are intestinal, so if gutted straight away then filleted (I've heard they move out of the gut into the flesh if left for a while between catching and cleaning, but have no first-hand knowledge of this), should be no problem. They tasted very nice, just have lots of long bones throughout.
