On a sunny Saturday afternoon, I suggested to the wife, we should go for a drive.
But where ???, somewhere quiet & picturesque.. So I took her to the sewerage farm.
They have really cracked down on where you can get to in a car.
We found the Werribee River Park & went to investigate. Parked the car and walked to the escarpment.
The river valley was picturesque and the breeze was carrying the subtle scent of the ponds.
If you wanted to go fishing from here, the river would be at least 2 km from the carpark.
To fish opposite "the cliffs" (which are at the south end of the golf club), it would have to be 10km. (see Parks Victoria map)
Having taken in the view & fragrance of the area, we investigated, for another hour or so, but were unable to find any other way to the river from this side (with the cliffs in mind).
We ended up at the Mansion hotel (there are signs "no entry.. guest only", which we duly ignored).. There is a staircase to the river bank and the area looks pretty good. I did not go down the stairs, as I have a bung knee..
By this time, the sunny afternoon had turned into a wet and squally day.
With the exploring over, we journeyed home, lit the fire and I cracked a cold one.
Had a pleasant day

Good day for an outing Gra, I just can't believe you cracked a cold one, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Re: Werribee River
Took some banana prawn down to the jetty yesterday arvo & spent 3 lovely (but chilly) hours.
As it turned out, I was there a bit before low tide.
With a North eastern breeze, I was getting some monster casts with an unweighted prawn on the (renovated) JW "port hacking". (love this rod)
The second rod had a much smaller hook & a sinker.
All up I used ONE prawn for the whole time.. Did not even lose part of a bait.
It is amazing how popular Werribee South is these days, people walking their dogs, kids playing on the beach & a few fishermen.
With the population explosion out here, this place will be bedlam in summer.
