Very nice eating fish. The bones are easy to remove, since they're so long and straight.

This is my biggest (113cm), caught land-based in Cleeland Bight on a tiny 6cm minnow lure and 8lb mono.

Unfortunately it was full of fat, white worms, so it went in the bait freezer.

Ahhh the humble couta,
we go back a good 5 years or so when i caught one on a plastic for the first time, it was also my first fish on a softplastic and i was on First cast, back in the day when my gear consisted of a 3 peiece graphite travel rod and a penn silver 20 reel.
i remember catching quite a few of them on my first time ( and lots more later on) using plastics on a berleky clear 3 inch minnow.
This is the fish that got me hooked on plastics and lure fishing in general.

ps - i never got bitten of even once. for an estimate of over 100 couta from mornington pier.
