Re: lake tryes
Best thing about lakes Tyers is that you can find some shelter when the wind is a problem. It has been fishing well so I am told from a reliable source. Flathead have been good with a few nice bream as well.
There are two arms to the system. Toorloo and Blackfellows. Go up these when the wind is a problem they have lots of smaller arms leading of them. Rule of thumb is if there has been enough rain to make the creeks flow then the fish are down towards the main lake. If it is dry then they move up the arms. The main lake has a lot of shallow sand flats over on the eastern side. They drop steeply on the edges to 2-4 meters. Drop offs are often good for bream, flats are good for flathead on plastics and lures. My favourite spot is head up towards blackfellows arm and just before you get to the arm on the eastern side is a large area of shallows. I usually anchor up on the edge of the shallows and fish the drop for bream and cast onto the shallows for flathead. If the main lakes is a bit windy you can go up either arm and drift for flathead or anchor up on the drop offs for bream. Often the bream are seen in the shallows in the arms too. If you are a baito like me , prawns and pilchards are a must have. The system is closed to the ocean at the moment. It has been open for a few months . Just closed off. Always a few Taylor and Salmon in when it has been open. Good for prawning at night at this time of year.

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.
