Phillip Island

Post by lachie.snow » Tue Sep 22, 2015 7:01 pm

Hey guys, i'm heading to Phillip Island in under a months time for the 2015 MotoGP and I am hoping to get a bit of fishing in as well. I don't get to do much saltwater fishing at all so I would appreciate any tips or advice on tackle/locations for the Phillip Island/Cape Patterson area. Our accommodation is actually at Cape Patterson because the island was booked out. Cheers, Lachie

Are you riding or driving to the location ? If your driving bring a beach rod & fish the beaches "Smiths Beach area" as most piers will be crowded over the MotoGP weekend..

We are driving mate so I will be able to take as many rods as I need. I might try to purchase a surf rod before we go. Your not wrong about the piers!

Bring a beach rod, some IQF pilchards, using a patternoster rig with 4oz star sinkers & place the rod in a rod holder & then relax, have a fish & a VB at the same time

There's a ledge out the front of cape patterson life saving club that's a great little option.

Other than that check out my reports from the Island.

What kg would you guys recommend for the surf rod? I am currently looking at a 7-15kg but I'm not sure if that will be too heavy.
