Micro Jigging

Post by Uluabuster » Thu Feb 05, 2015 12:21 pm

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone tried micro jigging here in Victoria ? With the shallow water and bugger all current movement we have here in PPB, it'll be fun to catch snappers, flathead & trevally etc on micro jigs (10g-30g) using 8-10lb braid.

It'll be interesting to see what is everyone's catch if this effective and
interesting method has already been widely accepted by fello Victorians.

Storm Gomoku series of rods & jigs are perfect for this application.

Cheers

Seems like a good way to get onto some salmon as well.

Yeah sea-ride is a hybrid...the bigger size falls under the category of slow pitch jig but smaller size are casting metals slices.

Good thing they flutter and glides on the pause.

If you have a heavier casting (spinning) rod, you can actually work it like a minnow pause, twitch etc to induce the inbuilt "dolphin" action.

Personally, 40g-60g are light jigs and i usually fish them using PE2 outfit. But yes, kingies love fast moving jigs and smash them with gusto.

I fish jigs <30g (which i call micro jigs) using PE0.6-PE1.0 outfit. As you can see from the photos above, the gunned jig in the photos above is 21g only.

I just bought a Ecooda Blackhawk micro jig rod (80-150gm) and gave it a shot out at montague island today.

Caught Trevally, snapper, rock cod, wrasse, and best of all some rat kings.

I dropped a better Kingie at the boat when a seal decided he wanted it. Took the jig as well, which is a pain as they aren't cheap!

Tried 4 different types of jigs and they all caught kingies so doesn't seem to phase them what you use haha

Great fun on light gear!
