Recently caught a ling which had a pair of gobies in its gut. Thought I finally have proof that gobies can be used as bait, they are a common catch in the lower Yarra/Docks area. Thought to check the DEPI noxious species list http://www.depi.vic.gov.au/fishing-and- ... n-victoria just in case and it does list two species of goby:
Acanthogobius flavimanus - Yellowfin goby
http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/species/6343" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Tridentiger trigonocephalus - Chameleon goby, striped goby
http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/species/6476" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There's a couple more species of non-native gobies that aren't on the DEPI noxious list, ie
Arenigobius bifrenatus - Bridled Goby
http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/species/6353" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Arenigobius frenatus - Halfbridled Goby
http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/species/6354" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
for those interested, this page lists all species of gobies found in PPB: http://portphillipmarinelife.net.au/sea ... ies&fi=214" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Thought this might be useful to post as gobies have come up from time to time in the Fish ID section. I won't be throwing back any noxious gobies I catch.

Re: Gobies on the DEPI noxious species list
i had no idea that there were noxious gobies. will have to brush up on my goby identification skills to stop from killing natives. they definitely seem to have a love/hate for wriggle tail plastics though
