Illegal fishing at Frankston pier

Post by Wolly Bugger » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:14 pm

Tonite I witness an individual about to put an observely undersized pinkie into a bag. I reported this to fisheries.

There was a group of people fishing, and the pinkies were on the chew, I had let go about three udersized, and they were fishing in a little bit of a hot spot. So heavens knows how many undersized pinkies were kept.

I did observe them catching a number of fish, but I was too far away to observe their actions at all times.

It drives me crazy that so many people out there think its ok to take overbags or under size fish. I fish Bermagui twice a year for a week at a time, Fisheries will check our bags and licences a couple of times at least in that week. Once was even at sea 15km off, they pulled up in a 400hp ribb. In Victoria I have never been checked by a Fisheries Officer, I was checked by a cop on Eildon once a couple of years ago but thats it. I find it a disgrace that they (the gov) leave it to fishermen to dob in people doing the wrong thing. They need to do more to protect our fantastic resource.
