If it doesn't fit in a specific saltwater section, post it here

Browsing the interwebs yesterday I accidentally accumulated another 2 megabass rods. Haha. This time for squid fishing. Let's just say the megabass spanner kit is coming along well.

This is an excellent thread. Can I add: preference. Half my collection are 4 Fly-rods (2 biggies, 1 med, and 1 light) because I don't like using a reel to control fish - there's nothing like the feeling of that 'yank' in your hand. A reel, for me, interferes with the buzz! I'm hoping to expand my estuary hit rate with my "babies" :fishing: This year.

What would you recommend as a beginning estuary fly setup TP? I would LOVE to learn this.

So this then leads to another question! Will you then have to purchase a reel for each of these rods or will you utilise reels you already have? I have a habit of using an extra rod as an excuse to get another reel? Even if I have one suitable for it! :-D (token emoticon)

Hi Doug,

I'd go for:

8'6" - 9' length rod, rated 7/8 > $120
intermediate or slow sinker - $?
cheap reel that you can turn the ratchet off $?
backing for line, pkt braided loop
6-12lb mono, 3 to 6' leader

Flies can be bought for about $6 ea. but I'll probably make some.

$6 for a fly?!! What flies are you talking about? The reason I have so many rods is because I fish for basically everything there is to catch in Victoria rather than just a couple of species and therefore I need more gear to cover each situation. I don't do a lot of fly fishing but want to buy more gear just because it's so pretty :)
