Post by tr3los » Tue Aug 12, 2014 12:17 pm

Gday fellas managed to score a nice trev the other day around barwon heads just under 2kilos on a pilchard strip, saw a few nice ones caught that day and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on soft plastics as I've never really fished soft plastics before.. I wanna have a crack at the same spot in barwon heads for trevs/salmon on s.p's can anyone point me in the right direction on sizes/colour/shape and also what weight jig head to use? thanks a lot in advance i'll really appreciate any advice given lads :)

trevs on soft plastics

2.5" grub catches most things including trevs. You want a jighead that's heavy enough to get you to the bottom in the current you're fishing. Basically no housebricks or champagne corks. I usually start with a 1/16 and go up or down from there.

Worm patterns work as well.

Grub, worm, minnow, prawn ect. imitations will all work for trevally.

For colours, doesn't matter too much but try to 'match the hatch' as much as you can - so try to make your plastic look like what the fish will be feeding on. Good allround colours include bloodworm, motor oil, pumpkinseed ect.

Since the Barwon gets strong tidal flow I'd recommend using 1/8th jigheads at least.

Don't forget your 20% off everything at your forum sponsor's online store :-)

Plenty of soft plastic colours & sizes to choose from too.

Cheers
