There is barracuda and there is barracouta ... two very different fish, one not caught in Victoria.

My brother caught a decent sized one off a pier while on a visit to Darwin a few years back (on a cheap Kmart rod and reel!) - and it went straight back in. Barracuda are a ciguatera risk (i.e. potentially toxic). Barracouta are fine, however.
