Kmart have cheaper options for both.
i suggest you buy the kmart jigheads and a packet of minnow or paddle tail styled plastics from any brand and practice with that.
it wont be easy to catch them at first, but give it a good go and eventually you will get them, first ones are the hardest it gets easier after that.
quite a few guys on here that can catch them with their eyes closed, and also a lot who struggle with them, all i can say is practice make you perfect.
i fish plastics 99% of the time these days and more than happy to help you out but im on the other side in frankston, if your down this way let me know and if im free i can give you a hand..

you can also catch redfin on lures, get some paddle tail or curltail plastics in 2 inch and use it on a 1/8th jighead with a size 1 hook and cast it out and slowly wind it back towards you, the fish hit it with small taps or just get hooked first time.
good luck
Thanks for the very promising response! I'll give that a crack for sure. Cheers!

Angus like most fish soft plastics work really well with salmon just speed up the retrieve like the guys said you get 5/6 jigheads in a packet about the same with the plastics depending on size so works out pretty cheap if you use the zman soft plastics they can take hammering and just keep going

Metal slugs? What would you get on them?
Pike, couta, salmon and other pelagic fish. Popular choice for anglers off piers. Keep in mind that they work much differently to plastics.

If you’re chasing pinkies or flatties i’d use turtleback worms in pumpkinseed.

Don’t skimp on the jigheads though. Only use nitro saltwater 2/0’s or 3/0’s. Or tt jigheads. Cheap jigheads will open up on anything bigger than a pinky.
