Very very helpful. I think I get impatient and set up shop with nothing on the sounder.

Can I ask, are flathead and squid not visible on Sounders? I find I often catch them with no sign of anything on the sounder.

There is nothing wrong with going to an area and dropping burley to bring them in (without arches on the sounder).
I have to get up early enough, without getting up an hour earlier to sound for marks before dropping the pick.

I find the best way is to chose locations after looking at the weather and tides, having a game plan and usually changing it when things dont go well.

Yes, you can see them on the sounder. I’ve seen squid come up off the bottom to hit a suspended jig. However usually they are well hidden in the bottom so you can’t distinguish them from the return from the sea floor and any structure.

Right! Now i'm concerned I don't know how to use my sounder (Lowrance Elite 9). I have all the settings set to Auto, since I have no idea what they are for, but to be honest I'm not sure I have ever seen an Arch on my sounder that resembles anything I have seen on any article or utube tutorial, despite catching allot of flatties and squid.

Last week I was catching undersized flatties like it was a trout farm but didn't see anything resembling an arch on the sounder at all. I even tried the downscan, no white spots either. Most peoples advice is sound around until you find fish before stopping, but at the moment I have doubts as to whether i'll ever see an arch at all.

Anyway, i'm definately heading out at Werribee this Sat morning 5am, ill try sound around longer between werribee and RAAF before dropping anchor and see how I go.

Can you see sinkers and jigs if you drop them in next to the transducer? What about fish you release? I can almost always see them on the yak unless they swim off at angle. They blend in to the bottom really well and I don’t see them until they come up to attack a bait or jig.
