Setting up Sounder for WP. Are these true arches?

Post by STriplett1997 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 12:09 pm

As i came in yesterday morning from an all night chasing Gummies, i spent about an hour playing around/sounding along with my new unit that i had installed. It's a Lowrance Hook 4x 2017 model. Not the best sounder on the market obviously, but its a start and certainly an upgrade from my previous one. (First time seeing Arches).

I have my settings on:
colour line: 85%
ping speed: Max 100%
noise rejection: off
scroll speed: normal
sensitivity: auto -4

not sure about the Khz

I sounded around Eagle and Crawfish Rock, and then the drop off from Quail bank towards Yaringa, as i was about to stop sounding and head in, i found these on the screen low on the bottom. Here are some pics attached.

Are these true Arches? and if i have any settings wrong i'd appreciate some correction.

Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam , they definitely look like arches to me.
The only thing I would try is reduced sensitivity,
The one thing I constantly do is adjust the sensitivity, even a slight change in boat speed when trolling you will see the clutter image change.
Personally I prefer to have a small amount of background noise displayed in the image until I can locate arches or bait fish.
Cheers
Jamie.

What colour settings do you run to get that nice white background? I have a 7x and can never get my screen background colour like that it's always stupid unrealistic green/oranges etc even when I do try set it as white

I’m not sure mate but I noticed when I put on night mode it went orange and green. Maybe that’s what yours is set on?

Judging by the image I'm going against the grain and say your sensitivity is to low. The arches are barely defined, the image is way to clutter free for Westernport and the bottom lacks any real definition, even if your were on barren mud. Get rid of auto sensitivity and just use plain on manual.

Crank it up until the screen is basically full of crap, back it off a little bit so a lot crap is gone, but the stuff like those arches are fully defined.
