Everyone running 30lbs on 4500's? Seems overkill.

Nicest setup I've used recently was a mate's Shimano Dialuna bull rod with Stradic 4000 reel, hooked a 40kg Seven Gill and it had no problems bringing it in, feels amazing in the hands too

With good braid 30lb is fine on a 4000 size reel.

Bait vs Lures?

For me bait fishing southern PPB 5-7kg rod small overhead or 4000's reel Ci4 ect, spooled with 20lb braid.
I agree with damian

When its mono i run 30lb when chasing reds these days. I don't change my line over nowhere near enough so its a little bit more forgiving when it gets knicked during transport or when in the water (reef, etc..). It gives me abit more confidence if anything gets me into structure.. & also allows me to use it for larger species like Gummies and Jewies, even the bycatch can empty a spool quick smart before you decide whether you should bust it off..

Someone said earlier 30lb mono on a 4500 sienna.

I have 4 rods for ppb 2 t curve tk3g with shimano 4000 sustains 20lb braid and 2 raider rods with 4000 fk Stradics with 20 lb braid. I use the tcurves mostly when with someone but all 4 when by myself.
All rods have caught good fish but the tcurves and the sustains feel the best.

knocked over a few 5-6kg reds on my 2500 stradic ci4+ on my egi rod last season, running 12lb braid, that was pretty fun
