1-4kg or 2-4kg rod. 2000/2500 size reel. 10lb braid with 15lb leader due to teeth. It's a giant bowl with stuff all to bust off on

They Most certainly are a hoot on that sort of gear, i was quite surprised that my Black label 2-4Kg rod was able to handle a decent snapper, the reel however let me down as there wasnt enough line hahahacobby wrote:1-4kg or 2-4kg rod. 2000/2500 size reel. 10lb braid with 15lb leader due to teeth. Re: Ultimate PPB Snapper Combo
i had a 2004 Luvias mate, which i have spooled with just under 100mts of 6lb line and leader, so i had to let the fish run a bit. about 16m i think it was. if my dad knew how to drive the boat, i would have landed that fish, got a 5kg about 10min before this one that spooled me.
2500 reels are a whole different story, plenty more line and drag available.

I think 2 to 4 kg is touch light.cobby wrote:1-4kg or 2-4kg rod. 2000/2500 size reel. 10lb braid with 15lb leader due to teeth. It's a giant bowl with stuff all to bust off on

Re: Ultimate PPB Snapper Combo
The thing is, in PPB there is basically no structure, so you can just let the fish run. No need there for heavy set ups to skull drag them insmile0784 wrote:I think 2 to 4 kg is touch light.cobby wrote:1-4kg or 2-4kg rod. 2000/2500 size reel. 10lb braid with 15lb leader due to teeth. Only thing its to light for is 100% solid hookups. Otherwise they're perfectsmile0784 wrote:I think 2 to 4 kg is touch light.cobby wrote:1-4kg or 2-4kg rod. 2000/2500 size reel. 10lb braid with 15lb leader due to teeth. It's a giant bowl with stuff all to bust off on

I dont mean skull drag them in. Just increase chance of catch and release if its a slightly heavier outfit. Still can play a fish on 4 to 6 kg + rig

Re: Ultimate PPB Snapper Combo
Swim the fish boat side. Any decent fisher will have a 4kg fish boatside in under 10 minutes long before majority of healthy fish hit peak exhaustion. The slower fight also reduces barotrauma as they are able to stabilize themselves better

Re: Ultimate PPB Snapper Combo
Yeah, they go for a big run on first hookup, tire after like 15 seconds tho. Then once you battle them to about half way up you get a 5-10 second run. Apart from that on light tackle its just a lot of small runs as they kick off every couple of winds. There is nothing to bust off, so as long as you have OK drag, just take your time and work them up. By the time they are at the surface u just scoop them up. Doesnt take too long and is very fun on lighter gear.cobby wrote:Swim the fish boat side.
