snapper outfits

Post by Gummysmasher » Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:46 pm

hi guys, me and dad have been out a few times but it seems like every time we have comeback after the trip we need some more equipment or didn't have the right stuff, not trying to blame my equipment but were very inexperienced. I want to get to a point by the time the fishing season comes around we will be all set and using the right stuff, therefore catching more fish. A list below of absolutely everything I will need for snapper fishing would be appreciated ! :water:

Hey gummysmasher, the guys are right in asking for more info about where and how you want to fish. The variance can be huge between the boat/landbased, westernport/PPB. However if you go over some of the older threads on this forum you will find a heap of info for all styles. Another option might be to put your hand up for a decky spot in the early season and learn the ropes from someone that has a bit of experience. All the best mate, I hope you get onto a few red whales and report back.

Westernport, you're generally going to need heavier gear. Our standard snapper/gummy outfits are 10-12kg rods, charter special reels, 25lb mono line. Ezi rig slider, down to a snap swivel, 60lb leader, down to 2 4/0 gamakatsu suicide octopus hooks early season, single 8/0 later season.
Pretty simple, not really massively expensive setups.
