I don't know if your talking 2020 as we are only 2 months in, or the season 2019 as Snapper season in Vic is usually October,November. So last season was a bloody ripper if you went to the productive spots . I will be waiting at home till mid March as the good Snapper will come great again. October 2013 was my best season,2019 was my second best.

I havent been able to hit the water for various reasons for well over 6 months (hence my lack of involvement here), but from the outside looking in and talking to the guys at work that fish it sounds like it was a poor season for Snapper. I dont know if it is the rumour mill running overtime or a fact, but that is the vibe ive been getting.
The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

Im no pro snapper angler, but i have had the best season ive ever had in my own boat this year. all on lures, so im not sure if the bait would have increased numbers. fish weren't massive by any means(l40cm to 3kg fish) but consistency was there..

ive done well other years on other peoples boats where bait is predominantly used, so maybe this season for me is something ive been missing out on all the time, or just a fluke.
time will tell.
good to hear.

were you hopping plastics along the bottom? or some other technique?

thanks for the links, interesting stuff indeed.

what sort of weight jig heads do you use out there?
you use a 2-4kg rod? how does it go with the good sized snapper?

1/8th to 1/4 depending on what the tide, wind and drift is doing.
Don't be put off by the 2-4kg rating of that rod. It's a beast of a thing. I have landed some very decent fish on it.

All landed on that same rod. And luvias 2506 or 2004 reels.

I also have a TD commander in the same rating 2-4kg but I don't think I'll be pushing my luck with these fish on that rod. The black label is a different beast altogether.
