Thanks for the heads up on the BCF sale Poodoo. Might make it after work and splash some cash.

Raulfc7 - Going short on anything is a bold step for me. As for the surf, I'm used to a Nitro Messiah. Not sure how long it is, but think it might be measured in the kilometres...hell of a beast. To be honest 9' still freaks me out, but when in Rome....

Any preferences on the braid or the singles on the Gillies fellas?

Carl uses singles, I still use trebles. this will come down to personal preference, give each a go. I change three books after a couple of sessions, they can get blunt with all that dragging in the sand.

I have 15 lb fins braid and 20 lb leader.

I use singles `cos I`ve got a sense of adventure...lol..
Owner Sergeant jigging singles in 1/0. Good hooks, though the barb is very small..I reason that you get more hook up`s, but land slightly less, plus if your on a big school of fish, and you have a fish really inhale the treble, your gonna have a nightmare, singles normally pop out no problems..
5kg braid, 16lb leader for me..(using the leader from our site sponsor SFP at the minute, good stuff.!)

G'day fellas
Im using my one and only rod I own for casting lures
Its a Catana 701 with a sienna 2500 running 10 or 15 lb braid with 10 lb leader.
I tried it out 2 weeks ago roughly at gunnas and pulled in 4 sambos biggest would have been 300mm
And im using a Gillies silver slug 30 or 40 gram I think.

I went out this saturday at gunnas while the tide was going out, till low tide, I didnt get any bites.
All fun though.

Will my setup be ok?
I should I avoid using it and wait to get another setup?

The rod seems pretty flexible (one piece)
And I seem to cast it a reasonable distance at a guess 50 meters
seemed to be bombing it further than the other guys fishing at the time.

keen to hear your thoughts
cheers cam

You should look at getting the 902 surf spin road and pair it with a 4000 reel. It will give you greater casting and be able to muscle the fish when they get stubborn
Braid 5kg and pair it with the equivalent fluro leader
Gillies slugs 40g

I brought everything but the kitchen sink yesterday. Unfortunately, the action was low.
