Looking to give soft plastics another go... is braid line absolutely necessary, or is it possible to use just fluro carbon line?

Nothing in fishing is ‘absolutely’ necessary. It might help you catch more fish though

Not nessassary but helps feel the strike better.
Could just use mono for bulk of the line

Braid is the best option for soft plastics in my opinion. It allows greater feel and control and may be the difference between hooking up to a fish or not.

Nah , i run 4lb mono with 8-10 pound leader ..
I prefer braid....but if I use mono I run lighter lb ,then I would braid..


But if ya got the cash you can run full fluro....

i mentioned blue ray with good intentions of pointing towards modern cinemedia, but im sure theres some black and white videos floating around on blue ray.. in that case what you dont know wont hurt you :rofl:
