Some questions on salmon slugs
Hey guys after some awesome fun spinning for salmon yesterday I have decided to focus some more effort on this style of fishing and was wondering a few things,
1. What sort of hooks do you prefer? Trebles or singles?
2. What style of singles do you use if using singles?
3. What are your thoughts on these lures http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shi ... 83846.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?
thanks in advance  and sorry if any of these questions have been asked before :titanic:

The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad

Gillies lures are 4.50 at kmart.
You can use decoy / gama / owner singles. I have a mix, been lazy to change over to singles and lost a number of fish due to that.

Re: Some questions on salmon slugs
I have caught salmon on those exact lures but the reflective paint flakes off very easily.
To be honest because of the weight it's easier to buy lures in sale from aus than import them.

Re: Some questions on salmon slugs
Hi Cam. Been using the gillies silver and blue silver treble hook lures 40g mainly this year with great success hardly dropping a salmon (probably lucky) at Gunnamatta and Martha rocks. I have started using the Black magic lure of late, single hook hollow body (saw DougieK using a similar one) with great hook up rate but at times the hook ends up half way down the salmons mouth/throat. Going to the Gun this Sat and will start off with Black Magic lure.

Decoy sergeant jigging singles in 1/0 or 2/0.
Ally those to something between 40-50grams that is baitfish shaped and flies really well, you will catch salmon.
My current lure of choice is a 50gram lazer in black and chrome, though I think the colour is irrelevant tbh..

Lures with weight towards the back tend to fly better. Egi the gillies batting seems to tumble less in the air than the pilchard. Both will catch fish though

Re: Some questions on salmon slugs
Anyone know of any videos on how to spin for salmon?
I want to get some tips and just see some of the actions that everyone use.

The technique is pretty simple throw the lure as far as you can and wind it in constantly. Some people wind, stop, lift etc In the surf the salmon see a shiny thing go pass them and smash it.matt1991 wrote:Anyone know of any videos on how to spin for salmon?

If it is snaggy start winding as soon as the lure hits the water.
