Re: Opinions please on these sinkers
i think star sinkers would be better
the pointy bits on the sinkers you have the link too i believe would be too small to catch on anything
might be alright in calmer waters

I'm positive that type of sinker was around many rears ago. Found these on the net

Re: Opinions please on these sinkers
Various sinker patterns are designed to suit a particular purpose. The point is to experiment with them to find out where and how to use them.
The sinkers you mention I have not used, but there is also the spoon sinker as well. There shape is not the good for casting distance. The pyramid/star sinker, and the ultimate for distance is the breakaway grip sinkers, because of there aerodynamic shape.
I have both the pyramid/star and the breakaway grip, but even they have their limitations on holding bottom in a heavy current.
The ability of the sinker to hold also depends on the size and shape of your bait, large baits, and irregular shape will cause the sinker to move in even moderate currents.

I don't think you can beat grapnel or breakaway sinkers for holding bottom in the surf.

I like using these. As you say they hold pretty well.vikodin wrote:I don't think you can beat grapnel or breakaway sinkers for holding bottom in the surf.

I remember using that style of sinker when I was a young lad fishing off the pier at blackpool for dabs, I prefer the bomb shape with wire breakaway legs better holding and more streamlined for casting.

Lol..ditto..for Blackpool read Hartley, (just north of Whitley Bay ). For dabs read flounder and coalfish..breakout sinkers all the way..Nude up wrote:I remember using that style of sinker when I was a young lad fishing off the pier at blackpool for dabs, I prefer the bomb shape with wire breakaway legs better holding and more streamlined for casting.
