Spooling a threadline reel - instructional video.

Post by Rod Bender » Sat Nov 02, 2013 3:13 am

Hi All
I thought I would link to this video which was part of Daiwa's latest 'newsletter'. It shows how to spool a threadline reel with either mono or braid ( a small amount of mono as backing appears to be the recommendation)! Spooling reels seems to be a relevant topic here of late! :-D

I'm not sure of their method of spooling mono as I tried it once before; perhaps I had the spool facing the wrong way but I ended up with a lot of line twist. Anyway, there are some ideas in the video to consider. Also, if uncertain, have a look at the reel's instructions. Some that I have include details for spooling.

Great vid, altho I'd always thought that the line coming off the new reel ought to come off in a clockwise manner rather than the opposite as instructed - guess I've always got it wrong there. cheers

If you are happy with the way it works out, I would keep doing the same.

Good video. Although with the mono , off the side anti-clockwise off the original spool of line / I've seen this done a long time ago. Main reason was to stop twist in the line and help remove the memory a bit, which it did, but I also found that it still held the memory of the mono line a bit too much like when it was on the original spool/reel.. to an extent.
Personally I like to load mono onto a spool pretty much exactly how he did the braid, but loading it with the same tension he used when doing the mono his way. I found this method removes the memory from the mono much better.
Each to their own though, what ever works best for you ;)

Cheers , Rick.
