Weedless Lures

Post by poppy62 » Mon Apr 01, 2013 6:51 pm

I read an article about Weedless Lures and was wondering if anyone here uses this setup and if you do, how do you find them & what would be recommended for use as i am landbased only (saltwater use).
Thanks......

Hah. G'day Poppy, i've never heard of these. Could have used them at Balnarring beach today, every 2nd cast had grown a tree :)
Looking fwd to experienced responses.

Are you talking about soft plastics which are rigged to avoid weeds?
thanks

Yes... the article used wide gap worm hooks with squidgie lures.

Is that Texas rigged worms..?
Use a weighted hook, (Gamakatsu`s for instance), and thread the hook first through the head of the worm, then back through the body, with the point just exposed through the back of the worm. When the fish bites it, it pushes the plastic down the hook, and hooks up itself. There was a good piece of info on it online somewhere...gimme five minutes..

Ahh. I get it. You basically rig the hook as normal but leave the tip flush with the body instead of making it sit proud. Though i note you have to strike with more precision.

I wonder if this works better on some species than others ie ones that clamp down rayher than inhale their food? :)

The article on this link could help. It gives some options in the pics at the bottom of it.

Fantastic, thanks Pedro that's another great article, and thanks to Poppy for bringing it up in the first place!
Andrew's reference to using the running sinker and giving the bait enough leader to lift above the weed while giving it a little flick now and then is a technique I'll give a go too.
