Prior to using 90% of the time Platypus lines , in the 80's & 90's i only used to use Maxima Ultra Green"best by test" . i aint sure if it as good as it used to be ? maybe the Maxima formula has changed . :dontknow

Ultima Red Ice, but I still go for Power Steel
You can buy Ultima line at BCF, tho you get it cheaper from UK i.e. ebay

This is what happened to 3 of my hooks when they got snagged and I tried to break 10kg Power Steel mono....

Here is the video footage of Ultime Power Steel 20lbs in action and Penn Torque, 1hour into the fight with something massive at the end of the line...at one point I was on my knees and ass leaning back trying to break the line. Fishing with TT Sport, one stiff surf rod.

crumpet_avenger wrote:I was bought up using maxima fishing line. Ive just started to think about buying line for some big Westernport snapper this season, I hate braid.. I have 4 reels to spool. Whats the reccomendations? stick with the green maxima?

I was thinking 30 pond mainline, Ive never caught a fish (snapper) bigger than 3 kg. im trying to get in excess of that this year...

also whats the difference with fluoro or clear line? apart from the obvious... wouldnt flouro spook the fish? I dont want couta coming through biting me off...
I still use Maxima and have not had any reason to changefor my Westernport gummy/snapper gear
I use mainly 20 lb on small penn OHs although I have a couple of 30 lb set ups to now used mainly with trace ( still trying for that first kayak toothy )
I also am not a full braid convert Its nice on my light gear but a pain in the "A" when 3 or 4 rods are all tangled by a gummy that has gone around the lot

and for fluro or mono leaders I have used both in WP and dont beleve there was much difference
fluro has the same refraction of light as water so should be invisable in water ,however that is clear water
WP though is discoloured so Fluro is like a clear line in discoloured water

years ago we caught fish with a leader of just thicker mono line none of the special clear stuff
guess what the fish didn't seam to care
My kayak PBs
Gummy shark 128 Cm - Elephant fish 85 Cm - Snapper 91 Cm - KG Whiting 49 Cm - Flathead 55 Cm - Garfish 47 Cm - Silver Trevally 40 Cm - Long Tail Tuna 86 Cm - snook 64 Cm - Couta 71 Cm - Sth Calamari 44 Cm hood - Cobia 117 cm
