Hi guys,
I am currently using 20lb braid and dont really want to buy any more. Is this too heavy for soft plastics?
thanks

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
It depends on what the thickness is.
Thickness is king with braids. Not the lb rating on the box. I’d prefer to have a pe0.8 20lb braid than a pe0.8 10lb braid.

i specifically didnt want to get into the whole PE segment cause the dude is just starting out with plastics, just didnt want to confuse him any further.ducky wrote:It depends on what the thickness is.

but yes certainly thinner is better, more so if your using shallow spools.
however i must say from experience i have some Gsoul X8 which is 0.8PE but 16lb breaking strain. i cannot undo snags without breaking the line, whereas a PE1.2 in 12lb most certainly works well and doesnt break.
not really sure why, but the Gsoul is an older line. so maybe its time up for it. but even when it was new it would dig into the fg knot so tight that it would snap at the knot (14lb leader lets go at the knot)

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
Well that just means it’s crappy quality line. Either a bad batch or damaged.
For the OP. Shimano kairiki braid is probably the best widely available braid atm. A 10lb spool of that would do the job if you are currently running 20lb Finns/Aldi braid or the like. It’s the equivalent thickness of a pe0.8 for whenever that becomes important.

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
Depends on the braid, Stern 20lb semi fused stuff is thin as and perfect for plastics. (Even there 30lb stuff is crazy thin)
Where as Fireline 20lb is much thicker and stiffer wouldn't be well suited.

Re: 20lb Braid too much?
On spinning reels I prefer a fused braid like Fireline Exceed for soft plastics and it flies off the spool during a cast. 10lb is plenty and Fireline Exceed becomes quite supple after a bit of use. I generally won't use any braid under 10lb, just too thin and hard to work with IMO.smile0784 wrote:What would be the cheapest braid 10lb braid he could buy?

I'm using Jarvis walker Hercules, picked it up on special. Do you know the PE of that line?ducky wrote:Well that just means it’s crappy quality line. Either a bad batch or damaged.
