Don't get your tackle box wet simple fix. Any gear you use don't put it away wet and salty otherwise you may aswell throw everything out.

You can get water proof boxes that are clear. I find them heaps better. You can see exactly what you want before you open it up.
Re: how to prevent rust in tackle box
what i do is make up a couple of traces complete with sinker and place each one in a small ziplock bag.
As needed when i break off i use these.
In my backpack i keep a small plastic tackle tray / box with hooks etc in,incase i need to make up more traces
i put some rice and baby powder in with the hooks etc.
I do the same with my boat tackle box
This draws the moisture.

Re: how to prevent rust in tackle box
I also do like Johand does, have some pre tied rigs and keep them in small zip lock bags. I also don't take my tackle box with me or I leave it in the car instead I use those small clear trays with the lids and only take what I plan to target that day. The rule I follow also is once it is used it never goes back in the main tackle box even if its been washed down, I have a small case for all these bits and pieces. My main tackle box is about 15 years old and I never had an issue with rust.

I usually put some of those silica bags you get packed in with things in my tackle boxes. Also, the rule on the boat is, the tackle box is always closed straight awayy after you get something out, and nothing wet goes back in.

Re: how to prevent rust in tackle box
I store most of my lures on
trees, rocks, bridges & any other structure you can think of.
They are collected by other fisho's during drought.
No rust in my tackle box & no money in my account
