I hate braid

Post by Mattblack » Mon Dec 12, 2016 11:39 am

I know it's blasphemous to say it on the forum, but I hate braided fishing line...it seems to get knotted up & tangled just by looking at it.
Tell me guys...apart from fly-fishing, why the hell does anyone use this stuff?

Strange ? I've never had problems with braid, I use rovex brand and quality Penn, Daiwa and Shimano reels, I always run the braid super tight holding it through a rubber garden glove when spooling.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

Hey Hornet....it's sits on the reel beautifully, it's when it leaves the reel I get into trouble. If it meets another line, gets weed on it or you get onto a gymnast of a fish you're up for an excruciating amount of time un-tangling the bloody thing...after 10 minutes my eyes and fingers hurt and my voice hurts from swearing.

From my experience, ive noticed that when i use a poor quality reel n cheap braid its guarantee knot or nest up at the reel. Also when i dont match the braids thickness with the correct reel size it twist up n knot after few cast especialy if your flicking lures. If you use an old reel where your runner on the bail is not rolling n seized up, this causes line twist n knots after few cast too. Now adays if i buy a good quality reel ill match it with good quality braid problem free guarantee. I also noticed that the lighter i go say between 6 to 10lb braid ive never realy had any problems either. Hope that helps, fish and tackle shops are very good at giving advice on reels n braids to match.

I like it for the improved casting distance and responsiveness compared to mono. I've found that when the braid is newer and stiffer I get it tangled more easily, settles down once it's been cast a few times. I used to just use it on lighter gear for flicking lures and plastics but now I have it on everything, up to the heaviest surf gear.

SORRY i couldnt help myself
The grass will always be greener on the other side for folks like you.

no offence to you fellas, but let me try and put this in a nutshell.

if your fishing bait, then stick with good old mono line

if you fish lures, or are fishing in a situation where you need absolute sensitivity and the ability to feel every little bite then you will be hard pressed to go past braid.
yes it can cause tangles that pretty much can be impossible to undo 99% of the time, can be hard to tie knots etc.
but the benefits far outweigh the negatives when it is used in the right scenario.
if you dont need it then dont use it.
if your fishing lures, it is a must have.
and yes ive lost countless amount of braided line on certain days, sometimes its just how it is
