Snapper Snatchers

I shouldn't complain as this Snapper Snatcher caught a nice little 3kg fish, but I don't think the hook should have bent over so easily. I got these off Ebay from a local supplier. Has anyone had the same issue, or better still, what's the best 'Snapper Snatcher' on the market?

Was out with Matt Cini of Reel Time charters the other day. If you've got patience he recommends just tying your own paternoster rigs. Said he's tried a few brands of the snapper snatchers and has missed a lot of fish due to weak hooks, knots etc. He also believes the feather things don't do anything.

Cheaper and you know you can rely on your own knots. Doesn't really answer your question, but food for thought anyway.

I tie my own at work when im bored at work. I knock over between 20 to 30 a night and that does me for a whole year lol

I also forgot to mention 10 minutes earlier we caught a similar sized fish using an unweighted pilchard (snatcher had pilly heads on both hooks).
Think I might give the Snapper Snatchers a miss next time by the sounds of it...especially if charter guys don't rate them.
*fish taken off Williamstown between 5-6am last Saturday using pilchard in 8 mts of water

I tie my own using gamakatsu hooks. I have been slack of late and bought some premade paternoster rigs but recently lost a good fish to one letting go so am going back to tying everything myself. As to the use I generally have one snatcher out other rods running sinker free floater etc I think a bit of variety helps as does a spread of different baits and see what works on the day.

I used to use snapper snatchers exclusively, but I dont think they are any better than a standard paternoster, plus if you tie them yourself;
a: you know the knots are tied well (hopefully)
b: its cheaper
c: you can use high quality hooks, I have been using BM KL 4/0's or Gama 4/0's

That hook looks like its been bent by pliers...? no way a 3kg fish would bend a hook like that.

Tie your own rigs. The practice you get doing them at home will be good for those times you've run out and need to quickly knock one up out on the water.. plus it's cheaper..
