^ It's not a bad way to tie the knot but the description of what he's doing is inadequate if you haven't seen the knot before. I also don't like the way he's doing 5+ twists in between tightening. I find the FG works best if i cinch down the knot every 2-3 twists.

Having said that, I haven't actually used this technique for it so I shoudl probably shut up.

Everyone that's tied the FG knot has done it this way first up. no need to shut up.

i agree that tightening the twists down every 2-4 times is much better. the knot comes out much tighter. The trick with the knot is keeping the tension on the whole time. if any part of the knot is loose it will fail.

There is heaps of youtube videos on the knot. I think we will leave it up to Ricki to find which one he can understand best and works for him!

Got it, he's just plaitting differently. Threw me off. Didn't finish the knot but did 36 wraps with his little twisting technique, it's not bad.

the biggest thing I found was to just practice tying the knot in situations were it won't be used. I spent an afternoon tying, testing and retying fg knots before I was comfortable in its ability to hold (or more so my ability to tie it). The other thing that helps is to do more half hitches than suggested in most videos. I do 4-6 clip leader tag followed by another 4-6 half hitches.

I like doing the twist way how he does it. I never had one slip and it only takes me a minute or 2 to do it this way.

Did you end up finding the video you mentioned earlier? i wouldn't mind seeing it. that's one thing i love about fishing.. you never stop learning.

I actually tie it a very similary way just using loose ends instead of both the main and the tag in one hand.
Ducky posted a vid of himself doing it in less than 90 seconds with a perfect tie, i can't seem to find it.

Isn't the braid which is braking sunline?

I would start by cutting a few meters of braid off as it might be damaged or deteriorated.

If a few meters doesn't make a different try a few more and if you have the same result replace the braid.
