Thanks guys, on the topic of respooling

How do you know when is enough line? I'm guessing you don't want to put too much on or it might get loops easily

I agree that a full respool is best, was just saying that topshotting was doable if you're aware of the limitations similar to using mono backing. However since you said you'd lost line on a cast, just remember thatthe knot will go through the guides on every similar distance cast and will eventually fail.

as for how much to fill, a couple of mm below the spool lip will be fine for braid. Fuller than what you'd have with mono

Cheers Doug. Any luck on the ledges or gunna lately?

I haven't been down since I saw you and Carl. Girlfriend is off to NZ for school holidays and I'm stuck in Melb starting a new job on Wednesday

Not really, some fish are being landed at the gun despite the conditions. I fished three spots over the weekend, Flinders, somers and a beach in the bay for zero fish.

You have to be careful if attempting to join braid together. They will slip of not done properly...
Id just respool since it so close to the backing.

You can also put a small piece of sticky tape on the join so that it will not catch again...

I use this knot to join braid, have done for years, has never let go even under extreme pressure if done properly.

How did you lose all that braid? If it was a big one in the process of spooling you, just think, if it happens again it will break at the knot for sure, better off to re spool in my opinion.
