Shock leader recommendations
I'll be needing some shock leader for my new surf outfits, I'm not sure which one is best (of course they all say the same crap about using the latest technology etc etc). Are different brands more or less the same or are some thinner/more abrasion resistant for the same breaking strain?
6oz is probably the heaviest sinker I'll be using, from what I've read that means I'll want 60lb leader.
Was going to use an FG knot to attach it to 30lb braid unless someone has a better idea.

Re: Shock leader recommendations
I honestly dont' use one. Just lock the drag when casting then adjust it afterwards.

Re: Shock leader recommendations
I'll be watching this thread with interest. I've got a different application and higher breaking requirement though.
YGK Absorber Castman is good, just pricey. Hoping someone has experience with other brands for both of us

Re: Shock leader recommendations
I carry 20 / 30 / 50 / 60 pound leader in my tackle bag, depending on the conditions and species targeted.

Re: Shock leader recommendations
I use 20m of 30lb mono, works fine, haven't snapped it off yet and I use between 3 and 6oz sinkers, when casting.

Re: Shock leader recommendations
Thanks for the replies, that is handy to know that a lighter mono might work just as well as heavy stuff. I guess I'll start off with one of the cheaper brands and try out the YGK one if the cheap stuff isn't doing it for me.

Re: Shock leader recommendations
Kmart leader is pretty good! Jarvis walker brand.. I wouldn't reccomend the name often but I stand by the fact I suggest the leader! I leant some to a mate n he has gone out n bought the 20,30,60 and 80lb ones! And can't argue with that price either
If I'm not fishing, I'd rather be fishing!

Re: Shock leader recommendations
