Snapper: 4/0 - 6/0 Circles
Flatties: 1/0 - 3/0 circles (or sabikis)
Whiting: sz6 Long Shank (even in the holder I find these hook up better than circles for some reason)
Gars/LJs: sz8-12 long shank

Bait fish, sz 6-10 long shank/sabikis

I dont target anything else often enough to have an opinion.

I have missed too many fish in the past using circles, and won't use them till I at least have a number on the board nowadays. Circles get pushed in the market due to lip hook-up rates, therefore being less damaging to a fish if it is to be released. Great for c & r.

Generally long shanks or suicide hooks if I am only using bait - circles if I'm using lures or jigs with another rod at the same time so I don't have to strike. Have noticed that circles tend to have a lower hookup rate though.

suicide's but reading this i might consider getting some more circle hooks
normally if i can't remove the hooks i cut the line or the barb of the hook depending on time frame or how its hooked

I find that circles usually help hook the fish a lot easier. I mainly use circles unless going for whiting, garfish or much smaller species.

But then again in the last couple of week whilst trying to catch whiting i have been able to catch some decent size portjackson sharks and banjos using size 1 long shanks haha

Circles in the rod holder, suicides in the hand.

I've never given it too much thought to be honest - for me it has generally be driven by what bait I am using and how i want to present that bait.
Or what hooks are on special ....

Snapper: 4/0 & 5/0 Suicide's
Mulloway: 5/0 Circle (for easy release)
Salmon: 3/0's tend to do the trick for the decent size ones..
Smaller Species: 1/0 Long Shank -> Smaller Long Shanks & Circles.
