Post by Nude up » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:06 pm

I was doing a bit of research fishing related of course, into switch baiting and which way to go bimini twist double wind on or fg knot straight onto the leader, any way came across this web site has some good info on it http://www.paulusjustfishing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. has some good info on braid.

Good site with a lot of accurate test data.

I have been using Tasline braid for a few years now and IMO it is the best braid I have seen or used.

Knot wars which has videos on youtube is also worth a look.

The modified Albright used in this test is what I use for quick braid to leader connection on the boat.

I did notice that.

A few guys who swear by the FG knot have sent in a sample for testing and the test results of there samples were poor.

I have tried it a few times with lighter gear and I have found it works its way loose overtime.

Given the type of gear they use for popping, long rods 80lb braid ect I doubt they can get remotely close to the drag pressure required to break a weaker knot so I doubt it matters.

For the application it is more important that the knot is slim to goes well through the guides rather than being the strongest.

I keep practicing the fg knot 60lb braid to 300lb leader when I am on nightshift I reckon you could tow a truck with it. I tie it the way the big guy off big angry fish on you tube ties it. I want to switch bait marlin next year and am thinking of just braid fg knot then leader no double no wind on or do you think I should stay with double using bimini then wind on.

I would not be the best person to answer that question, if you think it will work give it a shot.

I use braid backing for game fishing now with a mono top shot. IMO some mono for shock absorption is important and I am not sure 300lb leader will provide that.

My concern with the FG knot in that application would be working its way loose overtime.

On my tiagra 50's and tld's I use all momoi plaited double then wind on , I have a saragossa 10000 sw with 60lb braid and a daiwa saltist 6500h with 60 lb braid and intend to use them piching the baits at the teased up marlin as an option if the marlin are hitting the lures nothing better than a surface strike

What rod are you using them on?

What do you think the maximum drag will be?
