Reel help please!!

Post by Aussie_moose » Tue Jun 17, 2014 10:15 am

Hey guys im after a little bit of help in regards to matching a reel to my rod.

I thought id join in on the surf spinning action so i bought myself a shimano aerowave 963 graphite.

Now all I need is a reel for it, i really have no idea which reels are better suited for surf spinning but i think shimano baitrunner D's are good and iv seen both a 4000 and 6000 that are around $165. so in a nut shell are these good? should i be looking at something else? is there something better for same price? what size should i be looking at?

As you can see i am a complete novice on the subject so any advice would be great.

Thanks all
Cory

we use 4000 size reels. 6000 may be a bit big and will be a pain in the A** after a few dozens casts

just looked up your rod a 4000 will be big enough you need to check from where you bought if the rod is designed for overhead or threadline reel . overhead rodshave more guides and are place along the rods backbone

the rod and reel must feel balanced in you hand that is hold the rod just in front the reel and the out fit should balance it self in your hand hence the term balance outfit

you will not hold the rod all day so rod balance is not a big deal. Remember you have terminal tackle or lure in the end with will feel like a ton after an hour of spinning.
