What Fishing rod to buy?????
Folks,
need your help, I would like to buy a new rod for a reel I got as a gift, its not a great reel, pretty cheap but will do the job, its called an SW60, no brand or anything, its similar in size to my shimano 6000 reel
can someone recommend a good rod, something between what i currently have which is a big beach caster and a small telescopic job both shimano
I only do pier and rock fishing but want something strong, tried a Diawa excelled today seemed cool but I dont really have a clue.
plan to spend under $100
any help is appreciated guys, thanks :gone:

Re: What Fishing rod to buy?????
what do you want to catch?
Angling is the name given to fishing by people that can't fish
Re: What Fishing rod to buy?????
So u want another surf type rod again?
I would really only use a reel like that for bait fishing, as casting at such a large reel all day will kill you, and the reel too as it bet its a market job
also probably won't have the drag to tackle the large fish that u would use a reel of that size for.
What set ups do u currently have? It there a "hole" in your lineup.

thanks guys
want to catch anything really in saltwater,
I saw those strong thin rods in the shop, cant remember the material but they were thin and strong, would they take in a decent sized snapper etc?
I dont know what you mean by hole in lineup, just got a small telescopic shimano and then a bigger beach caster shimano with thick line.

Re: What Fishing rod to buy?????
Ok by hole in ya line up I meen.
And I'll use this as an eg.
U have an old vw Beatle and a Ferrari.
U need a commodore to full the hole between.
Make sence?
If you got a bit of cash and want to get something decent, I suggest sell the gift reel u got and go buy a 4kg 7foot graphite spin rod, say a phluger trion for eg and a shimano Sedona and some 8lb power pro braid.
That will do just about everything besides long casting big baits etc, but u say u have a rod to do this allready.
Sounds like your new to the game, if u goto anaconda bayswater, speak to Matt (Forbesy on here) he will be able to show u the rod with reel on it and show u some other stuff.
My advice is read read and read.
It will take a while but u will get there in the end

If I had a Ferrari and a beetle there's not a snowballs chance in hell I'd go and get a commodore. Haha. The rest of driftas post I agree with though. Don't put that reel on a $100 rod. You'd be better off ditching it and buying a $100 combo. Example one of the many catana/sienna combos.

Whats Wrong with commodore's? Super easy to add more power if you wanted to, a chev badge adds 50 hp  :icon_lolz:ducky wrote:If I had a Ferrari and a beetle there's not a snowballs chance in hell I'd go and get a commodore. I Agree on the Catana combo's, Good value for Money IMO.
