MIKER, I'm starting to think you're a Daiwa rep mate. Can you suggest a good model mate ?

that's what you think. smh. Your inputs are for experts and not for a newbie (probably like Shulgin, by the looks of it).Drifta-X wrote:Fish cador, it really sounds like u don't know the first thing about trout fishing.
I have nice sets of fly gear here and I do use them if I find the time and opportunity to use them.
Not everyone can use baitcaster, egg beater and fly gears...can you? :lolf:

Re: Rod and Reel combo for trout
As far as I'm concerned both of you have put forward valid options. A three to five kg rod with a 2000 size reel with 6lb line is not overkill and 1-2kg rod with a 1000 size reel and 4lb line will suit a lot of lighter applications. Just depends on where you will be fishing.Fish-cador wrote:Drifta-X wrote:^^^ 3-5kg way to heavy for trout.
2-4kg max
1-2kg prefered.
1-2kg ultralight? Looks like the trout where you fish does not grow longer than 20cm. :lolf:
thanks

Brand spanking new to the forum so firstly a hello to you all.
Now for the reason I joined. I was wondering if any one could lend a hand, wanting to buy myself a somewhat decent rod and reel for trout fishing. I usually just buy a jarvis walker setup in the past which are ok, have had issues with there reels so am wanting to make a change to the norm. I generally head up to Eildon and fish on the pondage there, also hit the Golbourn sometimes but have never had any luck.
Anyway I've been doing some research but what I've read is basically another language to me (all the jargon). So I'm thinking of spending about $150 - $200 or so. From what I could understand, spinning combos seem to be the go, the only thing I've no idea what brands are decent and what models are good for what.
Any input would be appreciated
Cheers
Aaron

Re: Rod and Reel combo for trout
The guys at TackleWorld usually have some great deals, last time i went through their Shep store they had a 2 piece spin combo (shimano(1-3kg i think)) graphite rod, little 2000 size reel with 4 pound braid and leader (rovex) for $100.
