Post by 5ubzero » Sun Feb 17, 2013 1:37 pm

Hey guys,

Im interested in buying a new fishing rod. It wil be for lures on carp, yellow belly and murry cod. I am land based and i am new to hardbody fishing and soft plastics. I was looking at the pfluger trion native specialist. what are your thoughts? Also what lb line would i need.

Are you looking at purchasing a baitcast rod or the spin version?
thanks

Whilst I have never used the Pflueger, I hear they are a good brand - without an inflated price for the brand name. The rod you are looking at - is it rated at 3 - 6kg? If so, you may have to match it with a 3 or 4000 sized reel. This may be adequate for carp, yellas and small cod but you will struggle with a big cod. I am currently looking at a 'light - medium' combo that will fit on my push bike! I have a travel rod and may end up getting a 3000 size reel. This will be used for bait fishing / lure fishing in my local rivers. I realise I am taking a risk of losing any big cod. When I am serious cod fishing I use a baitcaster. It has 30lb braid. I also have a lighter baitcaster which just has 10lb braid. I don't think you will get a spin outfit that will cover all aspects of native fishing. Would you not consider a baitcaster?
thanks
