Daiwa Windcast 6000

Post by spikestar » Thu Dec 20, 2012 10:14 am

This reel has 15kg Drag and 6000 Spool 50lb Braid 500m and 5500 Spool 30lb Braid 500m.

Can I get away using this for cliff fishing and catching kingfish?

Thanks in advance

:)

just read you has 500m.

are you gaffing, netting or lifting it via your outfit? post the rod you'd be using ;)

I would say it's fine, dependent on the quality of the braid (diam and amount)

but reel wise it should be fine, but you might struggle landing bigger fish due to rod.

(Commonly 6-10kg and up to 100cm, but can grow to 70kg and 190cm. Farmed fish are typically 3-5kg. )

I have a 15ft Shimano rod. Can handled 12 kg. If I catch the fish I will be gaffing it.

it should totally be fine, you'll struggle against a huge kingie from rocks but I'd feel safe chasing them with the windcast and a 12kg rod c:
To be safe to be safe I'd try get a 15kg rod, but hey, it'll allow for a faster retrieve once hooked..

would be ideal but hey, you should be fine with yours..

hi

for kingfish off rocks in vic, i use a 4000size twinpower with 300m of 25lb braid and a 10kg rod.

i use lure to target them and have only caught fish up to 5kg so i cant comment beyond that.

where did you get the 25lb braid, what brand? i use very thin 20lb on a 4000 reel and i cant fit 300m without overfilling the spool

Gotta be honest & say I find that a bit strange.
I use 4x Penn 560 liveliners, each spooled with 300 meters of 30lb Fins braid & have no problems with capacity.
Ok, they are 560s & not 4000s, but I've also got an Okuma Salinna II & have it spooled with 300 meters of 15lb Frog braid.
No worries about capacity there either. Plenty to spare.
I would think that any of the decent quality braids would allow for 300 meters of 20lb on a 4000 spool without too much trouble.
Just wonderigng what make of reel your 4000 is?
