New rod that doesn't fit together

Post by eddyt » Wed Jul 31, 2019 8:31 pm

I just bought a new Veritas 3 piece travel rod but the pieces don't fit together all the way. It feels like either the hole is too small or the bit that the rod's supposed to slide into is too thick. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it? This rod actually comes with 5 pieces, the butt, 2x mid (fast and extra fast) and 2x tip (light and ultra light). Also does anyone have a guide on which part suits what type of fishing?

Problem is I bought it online so it's a bit hard to ask the seller to fix.

Otherwise the rod feels beautiful. Can't wait to test it out.

Send it back. If your try and widen the hole you'll risk weakening the ferrule

Hi eddyt, i wrote a quick review about the rod not long ago. Didn't mention about the "pieces dont fit". Yes mine is like that too, nothing wrong with it I'd say, in fact a lot of older model rods (various brands) are like that. But yeah, annoying. I know what you mean. Send it back if you're not happy. Doesn't really impact the action though.

The mid/tip pieces should have something written on them. Mine is 6105 (6ft10 5 pieces), the 'medium fast' mid to be matched with 'light' tip and the 'medium' mid to be matched with 'ultra light' tip.

Not sure what rod class you have but should be something similar to that.

As long as a good amount of ferrule is inside the other sectuon its nothing much to worry about unless you're ocd

Thanks guys. It's the 1-3kg one. The medium fast mid and light tip fit together, but none of the others do. But the butt joint is only about 1cm off so it's not too bad i guess

when you put the other pieces together does it get snug? If it does, then that's how it's supposed to be. Not all joins in 2, 3 or 4 piece rods will go all the way in.

If you want you could post a picture and you might get a better response.

Cheers, Anth

The gap is a bit different for every piece... One fits perfectly the rest are off by 1cm to 3cm. I'll take a photo of it tonight

Good idea, gonna try the Vaseline tonight and see if that makes it better. Just realised i never had this problem before because this is my first rod with a thinner ferrule than the rest of the rod. The usual 2 piece rods just push in together as far or as little as you want and you don't notice it.

The extra light tip is probably the biggest problem. 3cm off is a lot, more than 1/3 out.
