One word...why? Daiwa has released a new baitcast reel, the HRF Sonic Speed which features a ratio of 9:1. I have always used lower ratio reels for my native fishing as in cod and yellas. What application/species would people use these high geared reels for? Steroid abusing cod, bass...Usain Bolt? Honestly, there must be a market for these reels and I am interested to hear what people would consider using them for. Are they aimed at the saltwater market?
cheers

Re: High speed baitcasters!
I'm pretty sure HRF is a saltwater reel. I guess it will replace someones spinning reel if they like using baitcasters more. would be nice on a 7ft 5kg rod throwing metals at salmon and stuff like that. You could still use it on your cob or bass, you just wouldn't have to wind so much.
