Snapper PPB - What's your size reel?

Post by yepi'mon » Mon Aug 20, 2018 10:32 am

Might as well get the ball rolling seeing as we aren't to far away from crazy time.

I know this question has been asked in the usual "what rod and reel should i buy" but I am looking for more of a tally for what other fisho's are choosing to use for snapper in PPB.

So the question is"

What size reel and line are you going to tackle PPB Snapper with this season?

For me it's Shimano Baitrunners 8000OC's with 20lb mono.

Considering purchasing two new ones in the 4000 or 6000 size and use 12-15lb mono for a bit more fun.....

The majority of the ones I use for snaps are in the 4-5k size usually spooled with 20-25 lbs.

I tend to use 4000's in PPB and 6000's in WPB
Love Baitrunners, (even though it's an overkill I particularly like the Thunnus)...also prefer mono when there are lots of rods hanging off the back.
Only 6 more weeks to go!!

Lures

2506 Daiwa with 12lb braid
Will look at upgrading this soon to a 2510 older sized reel or a newer 3000LT model

Bait

4000 sienna with 30lb braid (overkill but got on sale, ideally I would run 15lb braid)

4000 sustains with 20lb braid in ppb and charter specials with 40lb braid in wpb. I also use a 2500 sustain on my soft plastic/vibe rod.

What's the deal with the charter specials in WPB?...is it for the bigger bycatch on offer?

I use 2500 and 3000 size reels more than enough.
