Dont know much about Daiwa models.. used a friends one on the weekend and it was really nice. Might look into them. Can someone make a direct comparison to Shimanos?
What in the spin series is equivalent to Saragossa and Sedonas? How is the quality and durability compared to Shimano/Penn?

Also any other brands worth looking at other than Shimano/Penn (which are all my current spin reels)

I reckon a Daiwa Windcasts or Saltists are the closest to a Gosa I can think of.

What model did you use that your mate owns?
without knowing that its comparing apples to oranges.

saragossa would be comparable to the saltist / BG range (BG being a Budget version of the saltist)

Oh I'm not asking what was the comparative model to the reel he has... his was only a 2500 and if I had to guess it'd be similar to a stradic or the one under that possibly... and I don't want to spend stradic kind of money on a 2500 reel because it's not really the style of fishing i do the majority of.

It was just a nice reel in general which lead me to explore the path of Daiwa in general.

I'm moreso wondering what the comparative 10000 size reel would be to a saragossa I can look at. If that's a saltist?

From what I can see from a quick Google search the saltist and BG come in up to size 8000? How do these compare to shimano in the same range?

Just a tip most of the Daiwa reels are bigger for the same size rating. ie a 6000 Daiwa will be more like a 10,000 Shimano.

Annoyingly with Daiwa it also depends on the model as to how the size compares.

For daiwas prior to the LT tech.
3000 daiwa ~ 4000 shimano, daiwa 4000 ~ shimano 6000, daiwa 5000 ~ shimano 10000 and I haven't compared the bigger reels to know but I'm pretty sure 8000 daiwa is bigger than 20000 shimano

The LT reels are sized in a very similar way to shimano

Check this out for a in hand comparison https://youtu.be/-mP-Ugdf58g

With comparing reels (Daiwa/Shimano) i just go by weight and how much line you can fit on the reel. The weights and line capacity are on both the brands sites.

Cheers, Anth

There really is no comparison to the gosa, it’s the clear leader in the segment. Saltists are upgraded BG’s with magseal shaft, line roller and Airbail. The gosa is cheaper than a saltist, sealed and has stronger gears. The bg is no slouch and a terrific reel for the price, it’s just a lower price point reel than the gosa.

For a comparison to a Sedona try the new exceler lt reels. They’re the new spool sizing and model. I haven’t tried one myself but would be my pick of the cheaper daiwas
