first up 99% of my reels are shimano this will be bought for casting lures 20grams to 75 grams the shimano is aprox 80 gr lighter but 90bucks more than the bg i have used the ci4 2500 for about a year and still feel pretty much the same as it came out of the box has anybody been using a bg for a fair while ? does it still have the same feel had a play with both reels in a shop today the shimano felt a little smoother is the $90 buck difference worth it

I have a Ci4 1000 and the difference between that and my Sienna is very questionable for the price difference but I'm not sure about the Daiwa mate!

My mate has a diawa bg. I think 6000. I've got a sustain 5000 which I love. I much prefer my shimano over his diawa and mine has done more work than his. I no its not a stadic but it's similar. So I'd got with the shimano personally.

Both are quality reels so go with what feels best for you on the rod you intend to use it on.

I got my BG3000 after reading Alan Hawke’s review and chatting to a mate who does extensive shore spinning in South Africa. His reels work very hard and he has been very happy with his BG for the price paid. Light, smooth and strong drag, only issue for me so far is the handle doesn’t fold which is irritating when I need to pack it away. Early days yet but so far so good.

They shouldn’t really be compared because they aren’t in the same class. Bg is a lower model.

I would go the bg to save the cash. Provided the retrieve ratio is high enough and the knob is bigger

I own and use a Stradic ci4 for surf spinning and find the knob too small. The buomaster 5k I use now is the perfect everything. But it’s more expensive again.

Forgot to say another irritating thing about the BG is the smaller knob, not as nice to use as my Saragosa, other than that casts well and fast retrieve
