Egi Rod for boat use recomendations

Hi all,
I know there is a bit of debate whether or not Egi Rod's are a marketing ploy to get us to spend more money, but I'd like to get a rod specifically for targeting squid from a boat (mainly because I like the idea of it sitting in the rack rigged & ready to go). Anyone have an opinion on what I should be looking at? ($100-$200 budget)
P.S. I liked the sephia bb, but it seems too long to be using from a boat

A long rod like a squid rod is hard to use on a small boat, im using one atm an 83ML emeraldas.
It does make things a bit tricky, but benefits are there. Can cast a lot further, rod doubles up as my salmon slug rod (20gm max I would use on this rod, or a plastic rigged on a 1/4oz jighead)
You can also buy the same rod in a shorter model a 702MH, it’s a 7 footer and will be at home on a boat.
I forgot to add with the rod length being that long for the 8 footers , its also hard to land the squid when you get it next to the boat, the smaller models you can just lift over no worries, but no chance with the bigger models, you will need to net it, so make sure you have a net with a long handle to reach the squid, as with the longer rod length you will never be able to get the squid close enough to the boat.

As for whether or not a squid rod is needed for squid, well that’s totally up to you.
I will never fish for squid without a proper EGI rod these days after seeing how they help with technique, when I say proper I mean not a standard rod extended to 8 foot with lowrider guides, I mean proper EGI blanks with the right taper, action and sensitivity to cast squid jigs and work them properly.

If your just going to do the standard jig, jig and let it sink on slack line and wait then maybe stick with a standard rod, I don’t fish for squid like that anymore so it’s a different story for me.

My cousin has one of those Rovex squid wrangler rods and a sienna reel, its chalk and cheese compared to my base model Emeraldas outfit, he is now in the process of upgrading to the Emeraldas after using mine just once.

The Emeraldas (both 7 foot and the 8’3 ) can be had for around $180 atm from fight tackle.
Or the rovex squid wrangler combo is $50 at tackle world sales as we speak. (its still a decent entry level squid outfit)

Have you got one? whats its like to fish with.
its sold out i think, i didnt see any there last week.
ive had a play around with it and its a nice rod indeed, but haven't fished it.

rui's rod is fricken nice. I had a cast and retirieve with one a few weeks ago. worth around the 200 mark i think. lighter than my truzer but slower in action.

steve, point the rod up current and the squid will swing next to the boat. how do you think the kayak boys do it?

matt - i control the sink rate myself mate. a bit hard to explain but basically like fishing soft plastics.
Ruis rod is an 8’6 and $300. Only that one size is available

I use shimano cranx 2 to 5kg rod
I think its a good rod
