You don't need heavy tackle for school tuna and kings. For example i was live baiting not long ago for kings with a 4500 daiwa saltist and a monster mesh combi jerk. it handled them no worries. same with school tuna. I troll smaller skirts with this setup.
This doesn't mean you can't use a 10000 size reel. You will just find it easier casting a 4500 - 5000 size reel with a rod that casts up to 60gs and with the smaller reel you will get more distance with those lighter lures

Ive currently got a Saragosa 10000 sitting on a Jig rod which I use for trolling and thought the reel would get more use on a rod I could cast. Unfortunately I've now looked at the 'expensive' 5000 reels and I feel an urgent need to buy one!

I'd use the 10000 on the jig rod for jigging/trolling/live baiting and get a 7ft casting rod with a 5000 sized reel for casting/working plastics.

Matt, Tez and I were using Quantum Smoke reels at Portland, shimano 4500/5000 size, did the job perfectly, and not an expensive reel. Probably just need a little more tic after a trip, but we hose everthing down afterward anyway, so no biggy.

Dinga has some good deals on atm on the quantum reels. If just buy one of them or a BG4000/4500 tbey are quite cheap atm.
