Cleaning reels
Just wondering if I could get some advice on the best way to clean a reel. Went fishing yesterday/last night and my rods and reels got drenched repeatedly from crashing waves. Also would I have to take the line off the reel when cleaning?
Thanks in advance :victory:

Re: Cleaning reels
I usually give my rods (including the reels) a good rinse when I get home after every fishing session, I usually use water from rainwater tank (to save our waters ), and twice a year, especially before changing seasons, I open the reels and give it a proper clean and oil (be careful not all parts to be oiled) and that’s it.

Re: Cleaning reels
It is different from reel to another, depend on the material of these parts … if it good brand, I suggest you always refer to the catalogue … usually I oil only the mechanism where it is all metal, but again it is different from one to another mate … sorry

Re: Cleaning reels
R7 i do pretty much what Berto does. I don't remove any line just remove spool and oil metal parts (shaft etc). Every now and then i will remove handle clean and oil as well. Otherwise if you are well off buy new reels, just joking...

So tumble dry is out of the question

Re: Cleaning reels
tumble dry is a no-no. Any plastic material may overheat and melt. Hang it to dry overnight.
