Shimano reel part purpose

I think it it is just part of the clicking mechanism that resides in the dial. If it is missing the dial won't click when you turn it but it won't affect its operation.

it controls the ratchet tension :-P

Honestly i wouldn't have clue but personally i think Laneends have been barking at the tree ... should have gone directly to Purple5ive for the answer :)

why is there a ratchet? anti reverse? and why only in the 4k size?

No the clicking is a little metal strip at the back. If that gets bent out of shape it wont click

Hahaha i wish i knew. Besides it shimano i got no idea about them.

Look the best thing i can suggest is to.open the reel back up and take a pic of where the spring was and post it here. Im sure you will get the answer then..
Make sure you take a good pic. Not just a closeup of the area. We need to see a the surrounds as well.

Just put the reel back together and see if it works without the spring

Have a few of these reels and have been using one at least without it, and cant notice any difference. Hence why am puzzled as to what it does.
