Re: new rod
I got a nice Daiwa saltist jig rod for under $200 pe 3 to 4 one piece but comes off at the but. Great for gummies, small to medium game and jigging and short casting. Feels really light and has a more parabolic action which is good for fighting fish. With 30lb braid it would be prefect. Dont forget you often need to sort through lots of rubbish fish like rays that can grow pretty big and are a hand full in thw WP current.Gummysmasher wrote:i'm looking for a new gummy rod that is within the $100~$200, ill be fishing western port and sometimes port phillip bay. I'm to sure weather go spinning or overhead reel. ill be fishing from a boat. another question is, would 80lb be good leader for gummys, I've done a heap of research but get so many different awnsers.

Each to their own. I say way overkill unless skull dragging your fish in is what your after. Not to mention pain in the ass without level wind. If over head Abu 7000 aren't to bad for the money and if spin gear baitrunner 4500/6500. Both of which will handle any size gummy and can get away with smaller outfits it wanted.frozenpod wrote:No I am not, they are perfect for the application.Hosery wrote:Tld 20 for gummies??? Re: new rod
You're right...medium spin outfit would be perfect 90% of the time, but with a larger overhead it's easier to crank in a heavy sinker in a fast Westernport current. You also have a fair chance of hooking something larger as someone else mentioned....plus you could use it to chase those elusive WP tuna and marlin!Hosery wrote:Each to their own. I have an ABU 7000 and it doesn't come close to cutting it.Hosery wrote:Each to their own. I say way overkill unless skull dragging your fish in is what your after. Keep in mind in high current areas 16 oz sinkers are common, gummies can be up to 30kg not to mention pulling up big clumps of weed.
Re level winds they are not required if you know how to use overheads!
