My Other Brand Rod's & Reels (Not Alvey)

Fish hunter, is there much difference between using a 6 inch or 6 and a half inch Alvey in the surf ? or is it personal preference. Also for surf is a drag model better than a direct wind non drag model ? I have a low mount surf rod lying around with no Alvey on it, I'm thinking of resurrecting it for the occasional surf trip to compliment my surf spin outfits.

my short list is 600B / 600BXL / 600A5 / 650B / 650A5 / 650B1

Who better to ask than yourself, Anglers warehouse informs me it will be a few weeks wait as the factory is working flat out with orders Australia wide.
